Re: Everyone is home
Would be interesting for this not-so-knowledgable person to see.

Re: Everyone is home
I am going to try to make a bag or 2 on Friday. Dentist day (for the horses) is on Monday, so the weekend is packed full of transportation and other stuff.
I have asked the vet if I should give Cree a hormone shot. He is acting very studdish in the pasture. He chases Envoy and herds Kina. These are not nice stallion behaviors. Sometimes giving geldings a female hormone shot calms them down. I am not thrilled with the behavior.

I can also imagine Envoy and Kina aren't too thrilled with Cree's behavior either.

Re: Everyone is home
The vet happened to be going to the large barn down the street from my house. She stopped by while I was at work and gave Cree a depo provera shot. I am so happy she did that. Our schedules just weren't meshing. We'll see in a few days if it calms down his stallion tendencies.

So far, no difference. We're going to give it a couple days, and if he hasn't improved, he'll be in a pasture by himself. We'll move Kina and Envoy to the new pasture, and he'll follow into that one when they move along. We have plenty of grass in the summer, so it isn't a big deal. Winter will be a challenge, except that Kina and Envoy can always get away to school.

Slight improvement today. He didn't chase Kina around or get nasty with Envoy. Envoy still keeps his distance, but things seem to be settling. FINGERS CROSSED! Â Â

Here's Bingo's tail sock. He wouldn't let me put it on in the pasture, so I'll put it on tomorrow when he's inside for a while.

Re: Everyone is home
I take it a tail sock is to encase the tail to keep it clean and tidy? And you added those strips to sub for horsehair for swatting at flies? Did I get that right?

Yup. You got it. I think the next one I make will have longer strips. I will make the ties at the top out of something like yarn and use a whole sock for the strips.

Re: Everyone is home
Cree went to school today to spend the night. The dentist comes tomorrow, and Envoy and Kina will meet him there tomorrow. Envoy is staying for a week to play with my trainer while her horse recovers from a small injury. It also makes my drive time so much better.
Cree rode like a champ and was very tidy in the trailer. He is a bit lonesome, but likes his private little paddock. He gets to have an inside/outside stall for a day.

That's great. I've always liked that type of stabling.

Re: Everyone is home
If I ever hit the lotto, I'll have stalls like that for my entire barn.
Everyone did great today. Cree had not had dental work in at least a couple years, so he had to be sedated. Envoy and Kina are champs, and didn't need any sedation. Their teeth have been done regularly, so they had the equivalent of a cleaning. Kina is a little stiff and sore from her spring shots, so she and Cree are spending the night in their stalls. Envoy was a little sad to see his buddies pull away, but he'll be fine. He likes the horses at the barn, and will have friends close by.

That's good...nothing sadder than a lonely horse.
The stall/paddock setup sounds great. Lets them decide whether to be in or out. I can imagine having that option gives them a sense of confidence and safety.

Kina was sore for a couple days, but seems better today. I gave her today off just in case. As long as we don't get the rains tomorrow, we'll go back to work. Envoy is having fun, and giving good rides at school. I miss him though.

Kina and I went on a ride before it started to thunder. She seems fine even though she's in season. We had a light day since it's been about a week with no exercise. We both feel pretty good for it though.

Today is laundromat day. I think I'll be there for about 2.5 hours with multiple washers going. At least it'll be done, but I really dread this chore every year.

Re: Everyone is home
I wish I could get the last of the winter stuff done but it's still too cold yet! I do have to admit I've gotten it mostly done in dribs and dabs, not all at once like most years.....so not so much of a chore like you have today.

I can imagine. I vaguely remember someone who ran a service that did that type of thing. It wasn't cheap though.

Re: Everyone is home
$9.75 per load! It's getting expensive to go to the laundromat too. Sigh. But, clean blankets line the fences, and they should be dry enough to store in a few days.

That's all that counts, let's face those things are bloody expensive to replace.
