Re: home again home again
Lu's original owner called me today. We had a great talk about him and what he's done in his life. He's an impressive guy! He took the lady's daughter on competitive trail rides, and was a well loved boy. She is going to try to visit him this weekend, which will be great. I bet he will remember her.

And Ruby will be going to my friend's house for an afternoon of fun in an indoor arena. We thought about trail riding, but neither of us wants to get up early. This will be Ruby's first adventure since she came here. I hope she has fun.

Envoy was very brave today. The weather was beautiful, and there was a stiff breeze. He was a quiet boy for his fence walk near the rustling woods, and walked around the empty lot next door with no big spooks. We didn't ride long because he was getting flinchy (bugs?). I figured ending on a good note was the way to go, and we went in for cookies.

Re: home again home again
Ruby went to the indoor arena at my friend's house on Sunday. She showed off for a couple friends and was proclaimed "sassy." She seemed to really like getting out and about, and was completely unflustered by the horses in the barn. They were reaching out to sniff her, and she didn't squeal or do anything silly. She had a little hesitation loading, but I think if we keep going places to have fun and then coming home to her boys, she will start hopping right on the trailer.

She is a bit sassy - in a good way. She was swishing her hips at the trot and showing off. She knows she's cute. LOL

Re: home again home again
Such a brave girl yesterday. We were riding down the road early in the morning, and groups of bicycles came up behind us. At first, she panicked and wanted to jump into the woods to run away, but she listened to me and just acted silly at the side of the road. (Bike riders were scared and got out of the way quick, but were very nice and polite.) The next groups that passed us got smaller and smaller reactions, and every time she was a star about not bolting off with me. She's a keeper!

Flea bitten. She was born a bright bay and grayed out by the time she turned three.

I wonder if she'll go totally gray as she ages. Only one way to find out.

Re: home again home again
Lu had his 6-week checkup today. The little shard of tooth had not fallen out, but it was easy for the vet to take out with minimal sedation. He was a good boy for the whole thing, and was only sleepy for about an hour. He was hollering to go out as soon as he woke up. We have another week of antibiotics just to make sure the empty socket doesn't get infected. He also gets to add some senior food to his diet to try to pack on some pounds before winter.

That's good. He sounds like such a sweet heart. Is he underweight or just hard keeping weight on him?

Re: home again home again
He's both. Extremely thin and hard to keep weight on. He will always be an eater, but at least he's putting some on. I think the senior feed will help. I'm also going to look into some of the supplements that say they help hard keepers. I've never had one before. Most people and animals here are always on a diet.

Re: home again home again
I chuckled about dieting that usually been the case here. I've never had a hard keeper but I've heard plenty of horror stories.

Re: home again home again
I think he will just be a horse that eats big meals. I feed a hay based diet, so adding a senior feed is different for us, but if it keeps him in good weight, I'm fine with it. I can see him being one of those horses Envoy envies. He can eat a ton of food and not get fat.
