Re: Injured kitten
Good to see the little one is starting to show signs of improvement. Sounds really painful for her to have had twigs and grass in her stool. Poor little thing, but at least now it's only proper food going through her digestive tract and that should aid in her healing.

Re: Injured kitten
Last night and this morning, the little kitten purred! When I open up her carrier (it's the kind w/ latches to hold it together rather than little bolts) she meows for attention! She's decided she's a pet cat, I guess.
It looks like she can hold up the base of her tail, but the rest is dragging and she is still having difficulty controlling her urine and feces output. She spends a lot of time crouched in "the position" without much success. She has been trying to use the litterbox, but she also messes her bed, so we've lined that w/ waterproof absorbant pads (cut up disposable human bedliners. God only knows what the clerks at the Dollar Store are thinking! ) and with paper towels. We're cleaning her little rear end frequently with a gentle stream of warm water, followed with a "blot dry," and she doesn't object much to that. She's unhappy if I need to wash her paws off, though. I've started to put some fish oil on her food, as that is good for neurons and nerve growth, and it may help the nerves in her poor little tail find their way again. This morning she happily scarfed down her portion of Fancy Feast as well as a serving of "glop" (home made kitten formula. It has gelatin in it, so it congeals kinda like kitty jello.) and then went to work on the kibble. Baby steps.
Kevin wants to call her Tess so that's likely what we'll use. "Poody" is a nickname I use for all my cats and kittens, esp. when I can't remember the right name on short notice.

Oh yes! Purrs are a terrific sign. I think she's on her way to being a lap cat.

Re: Injured kitten
Tess is moving around more and more. It's still obviously painful for her to walk, but she is doing her best. She came out and mewed at Kevin yesterday, and usually the kittens are a little bit more scared of him, so she's over the fear of humans thing. She still has very little control over her urination and defication, and there is still blood in her urine and feces. The injuries she has on her privates may be as much of a problem as the nerve damage, so the more she heals, the better she'll get, I hope.

Re: Injured kitten
i saw this on your fb posts but forgot to coe in here and check in! poor kitty.....i'm hoping when all the swelling etc goes down things will get better. do you think she might still have some nasty stuff like twig parts in her? that would make it hard to poop even if eveyrhing was working right! here i am worrying about Salem having to sit in a cat carrier and this little pudda (that's my term like your poody:) ) is in so much trouble.
i love to hear about the purring though....sometimes you have to wait years for that!

Re: Injured kitten
She's a little better this evening. More successful litterbox attempts, less mess in her bed, more walking around the bathroom. I think she's passed all the grass and twigs, but there's still blood in her urine and feces, although less than before. Less swelling overall, so I'm being cautiously optimistic and extremely hopeful that she's going to overcome everything. With everyone pulling for her, she's got a great chance.

Re: Injured kitten
Sounds like all the twigs and grass are gone (she must've been starving to eat those!), and is on the mend. Blood in the urine and feces shows some trauma, but since it's lessening it's healing. I have no doubt this lil one will pull through and be fine given time. Loved to hear she's purring for you!

Re: Injured kitten
I will try to get pics of her and the little furry boy I have now today. She was just having a little nap a few minutes ago, so I let her rest. So far today she's staying pretty clean.

Re: Injured kitten
The furry boy is a feral kitten I trapped 3 days ago. He's on the "More Orphans" thread.

Yes, she could fly with those ears, but the eyes are so old.

Re: Injured kitten
Yesterday Tess's sutures started to gape open between stitches and drain a little. Of course, no vets here even have an emergency number on Sunday. She's still active, and the wound doesn't look infected exactly, so I'm hoping that the vet will get her fixed up today. Maybe this is normal with this kind of injury, but somehow I don't think so. Fingers crossed.

Re: Injured kitten
If you did have an emergency with one of your animals, how far away would you have to go?

Re: Injured kitten
The closest vet that answers his emergency number is an hour away. I have driven animals over there before, too.
