Re: Injured kitten
If she leaves it alone to heal and you keep it medicated to prevent infection what's left of that tail should heal well enough without surgery. I sure hope so for her sake. How long is what tail she has left? Is it enough so she still has good balance walking on stuff like chair backs and such?
My aunt had a black cat with half a tail and he learned how to balance again pretty fast. He was an adult when it happened.......kids threw him out of the car right in front of my uncle and he couldn't stop fast enough (that's how they acquired him).....poor babe's tail was badly broken and had to be amputated. Rear leg had stitches too. Day came to remove them we had a blizzard. Guess who removed those stitches? **hint, me**

Re: Injured kitten
Tess has great balance for her age. She has about two and a half inches of tail left. She's picked up manx style locomotion, sort of a bunny hop. She's an epic climber. She climbed up the screen door (it's inside, to divide off sections of the house for different animals) to hiss at one of the big cats that was sitting on a table on the other side of the door. Then she just hopped down and went about her business. She's onery, but we gotta love that, 'cause it's how she's been able to tough out all the healing she's had to do.

Re: Injured kitten
Hehehehehehe....fiesty lil baby. No wonder she's pulled through everything so well, it's that fiesty streak at work. Nothing wrong with that. I've known people like her, and nothing could keep them down for long. Now she can pass as a manx kitty. Wish I could see her bunny hopping around the place.....bet that's cute.

Re: Injured kitten
We'll take her in next week probably. I'm hoping to be able to switch vets and have a second opinion if possible.

Re: Injured kitten
Tess is doing great. She has a small sore spot on her little stump tail, but she can move it around pretty well. She is continent and feisty. She's very vocal and affectionate, so she purrs and meows while we hold her. As soon as her tail finishes healing up, we'll be able to put her up for adoption.

Re: Injured kitten
By then you might be too attached to this lil cutie! I am so glad to hear she's doing so well after all she's been through. I hope her new family when she gets one appreciates how strong her will to live and love is.

Re: Injured kitten
I'm already very fond of her, but I own 13 cats, not counting fosters! I'll be sad for myself when she finds a home, but I'll be happy for her.

That may be, but you're a tremendous success at giving your pets a loving forever home.gbste wrote:We are notorious failures at fostering.

I would call that being a successful failure!

She's lovely. She looks watchful. I'm praying she finds her home soon so she can start looking smug.

Re: Injured kitten
Tessie Lou was adopted yesterday! We got a great application from a woman who couldn't be at the petfair today as she was going to be out of town. I scrambled to find if anyone was going up to the Springs on Wednesday or Thursday to see if Tess could catch a ride, but that didn't work out. Then it turned out that the woman and her kids were going to be driving right through Lamar on their trip. I had to work at a basketball game, and couldn't meet her, but one of our other volunteers stepped up and got all the paperwork and money transfer done. Tess is officially adopted, but she'll stay here for a couple of days, and they'll pick her up on their way back home tomorrow or Monday.
