Well the front has arrived, the temp is starting to drop and we have a major rain
shower. Antonio is in his safe spot.

Sandy may collide with another system that is over the water, I have heard. If that happens, it would make things worse.

I've heard some really scary scenarios about what is expected to happen when Sandy confronts a cold air mass on the east coast. Hope everyone stays safe!
Re: How's the weather?
Down here in SNJ - we're hoping that the path takes Sandy somewhat north - New York/Boston - if it comes in in Del/NJ, we're going to get REALLY HIT!
Please, everybody, pay attention to the wx reports on TV, radio, and the web.

Re: How's the weather?
We were 32° colder this morning compared to yesterday. Now the forecast here: barely 30 if you're lucky in the morning, maybe upper 40's for the daily high, for the next 8 days. Brrrrrrr............we're well below average for this time of year. Some 'scattered rain' also in that forecast.

Re: How's the weather?
They are calling the Hurricane Sandy a frankenstorm, if it hits at the trajectory that will take it over NJ/NY on Monday/Tues, because it will meet another large storm coming out of Ohio, and I think another atlantic storm, plus because of the moon phase there will be major tides. there may be sosme evacuation from low lying areas. I may not even be able to get to work if they close down the subways

Re: How's the weather?
Everybody stay safe and warm!
I will say this: It seems to me there's been a trend lately amongst the weather folk to jazz up their forecasts such that their attention (and ratings) increase. Hey, who doesn't love a good forecast of disaster? I'm NOT saying the Frankenstorm won't happen, but I've also noticed a lot of wolf-crying. That really bothers me. These days, when the "news" depends on which channel you watch, I still trust the weather guys to be practical and science-based. Yes, better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best (and I hope you all will!). But if TV meteorologists continue to hype rainstorms as deluges, people might stop paying any attention whatsoever. Now, that could spell disaster.
Sorry, Old Lady Grump over.

I totally agree with the Old Lady Grump, what a minute we're not old ladies. Just
somewhat mature.

Re: How's the weather?
the sky is falling.
We got the notice at work that they will be open, whatever and if we cant get in we have to use a PTO or get docked. Of course if the city shuts down the buses ab\dn subways we wont be able to get in, and in any case I work in lower manhattan and they will likely not let anyone in that area if the worse comes, its a flood zone

Re: How's the weather?
I don't have a "sky falling" smiley, but how about singing in the rain? Oh, and LK, my employer has always been much like yours - they don't close down, and make you take a PTO if you can't make it in due to weather.

Re: How's the weather?
I have to give my company credit. They've made it possible for us to make up time in the past. All our servers are shut down, and we will have to use leave if we can't open, but no one is expected to drive in the bad weather. I have a feeling we will miss out on the worst in VA, but I sure hope y'all don't get it as bad as they're saying. This thing looks UGLY.
Take your PTO. It isn't worth getting killed for a few dollars!

Re: How's the weather?
One advantage of being the Absolute Monarch of a small southern office is that I get to make those decisions for the support staff. There's no nonsense about PTO for weather closures. If we can't get to work because there's a light dusting of snow, no penalty accrues. Of course, that just applies to me and the secretary. (The 4 attorneys can do whatever they want, any time, any day; they don't get paid by the hour.)

Glad you like the new smiley! I found three or four new fun ones - including one for your stinky water!
Re: How's the weather?
I love it. By the way I used the instead of the queen
because the the was Absolute and queen is a corruption of the celtic
word for wife.

Re: How's the weather?
Lol, Sue! On the other hand, I rather like the notion that the wife is the ! Not that the is the , of course. Not at all.
Sandy stayed offshore enough that I (inland NC) didn't get much beyond breezes, not even rain. The coast saw some action, though, with high waves and yet more beach erosion. The cold from the West is still moving in on us and we're looking at a cold, wet week. Nothing like what the Northeast is facing though.

Re: How's the weather?
A little farther north and on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, we're starting to get big wind gusts and have had rain for 24 hours. It's looking more and more tropical. So far, we're still not flooded and have power. I hope our friends up to the north are tucked in and staying safe. This is going to be no fun.

Several pages on FB are posting information about evvacuations(sp). Not all shelters will accept pets
and some require that you stay with the pet. North Shore Animal League has set up portable shelters in
New York. Check their website.

Re: How's the weather?
LOVE the soapbox smilie! The singing in the rain one is cute too.
I saw that storm flooding coming in NJ this morning on the news......it looks so bad I'm worried about Jeane in that basement. I sure hope she doesn't get flooded or is ordered to evacuate. This storm is a monster, the weatherman says they've never seen anything quite like it before EVER. And we'll be getting some of it here by tomorrow, in the manner of high winds if not some rain too. But nothing like the East Coast is getting as I type this.
Today we started out at 29 with windchill around 23. It was still dark when I headed out for work this morning. If we're lucky we might get near 50 today but with wind picking up it won't feel that warm. Still low normal for here this time of year.
