Re: Movie Reviews
I was interested in it when it came out because I really like Hitchcock. If I remember right, it got lousy reviews, but that shouldn't have stopped me from watching it. Reviewers and I don't often see eye to eye. Glad you liked it, Suzzzz.
Re: Movie Reviews
Watched Frankenweenie last night.
While I enjoyed it and it had some very funny moments (it is a Tim Burton film after all) I felt a little let down at the end.
I rate it
Saw The Hobbit a couple of weeks ago too. I always enjoy a good romp through Middle Earth ( as my extended versions of The Lord of the Rings will attest) but I found it hard to understand why it is going to take three movies out of a book I could read in an afternoon.
Admittedly the casting, script (with the possible exception of Sylvester McCoy as Radaghast. He was too old for the part IMO), scenery etc were very well done as with all Peter Jackson films. I just felt that two films would have been enough.
Jackson has, apparently, taken details from the Silmarrilion and Book of Lost Tales to enhance and pad out the film.
I'll still give it

Re: Movie Reviews
I agree...three movies out of one book is a stupid idea. I think they should have had a different director instead of the same man did who the LOTR movies.
Anything for money.

Re: Movie Reviews
Watched Darling Companion tonight, the Diane Keaton/Kevin Kline movie about an empty nest couple coming to terms with their relationship via dealing with the wife's lost beloved dog. WAY better than I thought it would be, and no distressing animal angst to deal with. Good movie about adult human relationships; has very little to do with animals.
I was considering watching Frankenweenie, Bob. Why did it let you down in the end?

Re: Movie Reviews
I'd like to know the answer to that myself, but I just got it from the library so maybe I'll find out for myself this weekend.
I do have the original 8 minute short of Frankenweenie on tape--it was cute. Hoping the movie version is at least half as good as the short is.

Watched Skyfall tonight. Really great, a lot of fun. Typical Bond
movie and this one paid tribute to past Bond movies. Adele did the opening
track, then rest of it was themes from the original movies. They even had Sean
Connery's Austin Martin, I almost cried when they destroyed it. Still rolicking good
fun and Daniel Craig is on par with Connery.

A Monster in Paris was a good movie. It was cute, funny and had heart.

Re: Movie Reviews
I thought Frankenweenie was good. They did obviously borrow a bit from several other Tim Burton movies, as well as a few classics, towards the end. Brad, my mom, and I thought it was a tribute to those movies. We voted and gave it

Escape from Planet Earth was boring and hardly funny at all. You are better off watching Planet 51.

Re: Movie Reviews
Saw the first halh hour or so of Monsters Inc. on TV last night, and that was FUN! I'd forgotten how funny it was. Might try Monster in Paris -- thanks for the review, FF.
Started (but have not finished) the movie Buck tonight, a documentary about Buck Brannaman, the horse whisperer. Mighty fascinating and moving stuff.

Re: Movie Reviews
Yeah, especially since they have a prequel out there at the theaters right now. Monsters Academy I think it's called.

Re: Movie Reviews
Watched Immortal Beloved. It's about Beethoven and if you don't enjoy
classical music then you won't like this movie at all. The only name in the
cast is Gary Oldman. The first half is draggy and hard to follow as the movie
progresses then things start falling into place. The end with the final movement of the
ninth is just stunning. On soundtrack, location, photography and costumes

Re: Movie Reviews
Watched the Trouble with the Curve. Clint Eastwood, Justin Timberlake, John
Candy, Amy Adams. Clint is an aging baseball scout who is losing his vision and has
to scout a player that the Braves want as a first round draft pick. The movie has a romance that involves Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake. I haven't decided whether it's a baseball movie disquised as a chick flick or the other way around.

Re: Movie Reviews
Epic did not really live up to the title but it was still a good movie. It wasn't the most original story (it was a reverse gender Ferngully) but it was very well done.

Watched a movie you've probably never heard of: The Stuff. Kinda a horror movie with comedy in it. Definitely b-movie fare but fun anyway.

I got a movie from the library today. Toys in the Attic a Czech Republic stop motion animated movie that was like a weirder and darker version of Toy Story.

Re: Movie Reviews
I may or may not know my Austen well enough to watch "Lost in Austen," but I added it to my queue anyway!
Watched "Despicable Me" again last weekend. Love it.
Also watched "Seven Psychopaths." Bizarre, bloody movie about psychopaths and moving making. I shouldn't even be telling you about it. Ignore this post.

Re: Movie Reviews
Lost in Austen is Pride and Prejudice with a twist.
Recently watched "Quartet", another British movie starring a bunch of brilliant, aging actors about a retirement home for aging musicians and singers. many of the actors are actual retired musicians, opera singers, etc.
