Bingo found a home
I made the ultimate impulse "purchase." I went to a Humane Society fundraiser event and I adopted a dog. His name is Bingo, and he will come home after we get back from holiday adventures. He's really sweet and quiet. He gets along with kitties, other dogs, and all people. We're going to visit him tomorrow and walk him. I took him for a short walk today, but it was an event at a garden store, and the weather was pretty awful. So, we're going to spend more time tomorrow. I'm excited! I hope the kitties will forgive me.

The link didn't come through. Still it will be great fun and let's face it you can have
a barn without an intruder alert. Lot's have happy tails and a barky person home for
the holidays.

Hmm… Don't know why the link didn't work. Here it is in plain text:

And if you can't find his link, I think this one goes directly to his page:

Re: Bingo found a home
We went for walks and visits today. He shares a "room" with another houndy dog who is quiet and cute. She has a family interested in her too.
We found out that Bingo is heart worm positive, but is almost done with his treatments. When we pick him up, he'll be on preventive only, and should shed all the adult worms in a while. The shelter vets also think he was hit by a car. A lady adopted him early this year and returned him the next day with a leg injury. Her story was that he ran into a fence. His "stifle" showed a fracture that was not displaced. The shelter people and the vets all think that he was let loose and got hit. The lady, obviously, didn't deserve such a nice dog because he didn't want to stay with her. So, anyway, his leg is ok. Sometimes he holds it in the air. The vets just say to keep an eye on it. He should be fine, but might get arthritis later in life. We'll help his leg with exercises like Envoy does. It's the same body part.

ESH!!! You're right she didn't deserve such a nice dog. Can't wait till he comes home
and can tell us how the cats are training him.

Re: Bingo found a home
I called my vet today, and they faxed the kitties' records to the shelter. The shelter people check with vets to make sure we care for the animals we already have, and that they have all their shots up to date. I asked if they wanted info on the horses, but they said it was ok. I wonder what they'll make of Gateway's heart records. LOL

I think that they will be impressed. I love it when shelters and rescues do vet
and reference checks.

Re: Bingo found a home
Sounds like Bingo has found himself a great home. Hope the kitties don't mind a canine roommate. I have a feeling the shelter will be very impressed at the lengths you go to so your furkids big and small are healthy and well cared for. If they could see what you did for Sabi. But Gateways' records should speak well enough.
Bingo sure is a cute lil guy. I see you couldn't resist those eyes. Who could?

We're approved! We're coordinating the pickup date since we'll be away. Just need management's approval for him to stay at the shelter, which is actually very nice and people there love him. Of course I would pay -- even as a donation to the shelter. If he can't stay, I'll make a reservation at the place where Gateway used to stay. They do a great job too.

Re: Bingo found a home
Thanks!
I heard from the shelter today. They can keep Bingo until we get back. He will be most comfortable there. I think it doesn't hurt that I have a good friend who volunteers as their treasurer. I am going to try to visit on Friday because I don't have to work. We are getting the winter maintenance done on our heaters, so if they're done in time, I'll go and visit MY doggie!

Re: Bingo found a home
I was going to visit today, but I feel kind of terrible. Cold with chills and congestion. I made it to the drug store to buy pills, so maybe I'll be medicated enough tomorrow to visit my puppy. I want to see him before we hit the road. He needs his present, which he will share with all the other doggies. (Small chewie bones) We'll be bringing some little fur mice for the kitty rooms too.

doing.

Re: Bingo found a home
Bingo is doing great. He is one happy dog. We have some work to do on my walking skills, but that will come. He's easy and minds well. I am going to try to go again tomorrow. That way, I'll be ready to walk my parents' dog when we get there. He's a bit more energetic than Bingo.
I bought some bowls and food on Thursday, and my husband picked up a popper scooper yesterday. We need a dog bed and a harness for the leash, and I think we'll be ready.
Cold is still a cold, but the chills/fever seem to be gone. I'll survive this one.

Re: Bingo found a home
Glad to hear that Bingo is doing great. Walking skills will come with time.
What about a crate? Crates can be handy, it's not cruel you're only enforcing what
a dog does naturally. Don't forget to pick up some stew beef, Contessa loved it. It's
a good part of a natural diet. Listen to me. Like a nervous nanna.
