Re: Fred Friend
He can have all kinds of treats, but he is very picky. We found some bone shaped cookies that he likes, but he actually snubs most food and treats. He likes lunch meat and cheese. He really likes Himalayan dog chews better than anything. LOL

They are a hard chew made from (of all things!) yak milk.

Well that's different. Still got to be better than a lot of the other stuff.

Re: Fred Friend
He's so picky. I just go with whatever works. He's addicted to turkey necks. I can get those at the chewy store, so I've been bulk buying. He is learning about cookies, and fortunately is starting to eat his dry food again. I guess the meds were messing with his appetite.

Re: Fred Friend
I send pictures to the vet on Monday for the after-surgery telemedicine visit. Fred's sutures are all absorbed, and the incision looks just like a scar. He is still a bit lame, but getting better and better. It's getting difficult to keep him calm when he goes out for potty breaks. He wants to chase squirrels.

That's wonderful that he's doing so well. As for the squirrels, can you blame him.

I can't! I hope he chases them like crazy once he's all healed.

Well as long as he doesn't catch one. I don't think your meowmy would like that.

Re: Fred Friend
The squirrels are in no real danger. And, they're getting so fat eating bird food that a little exercise won't hurt a thing. Fred can't chase yet, but we've started his PT time. He goes on 5 minute walks a few times a day. Next week, we go up to 10 minutes. We keep adding 5 minutes until June 1 when he goes in for his x-rays and final progress checkup. Everything is looking really good.

He's definitely getting more and more energetic. He is eating a lot better. I'd say that he is feeling much better.

Re: Fred Friend
It's surprising how much better he is eating. He is still picky about treats, but he eats all his dry food and we've cut way back on the soft food. This is good for the wallet!

Re: Fred Friend
He is getting more active too. Soon, I might have to invest in a run or fence. He is not as trustworthy with strangers as Bingo was. I am afraid he'll bite someone if I'm not there. I hope to train him out of that, but not sure I will be able to. He is very protective of his house.

Re: Fred Friend
The run sounds like a good idea. If you do you might want to consider securing it so he can't dig out. I've been told that hounds are notorious diggers.

Shh! So far, he isn't. Let's not give him any ideas.

I promise. When he comes to trouble as I understand hounds don't need any help.

Re: Fred Friend
True dat! He seems perfectly happy to lie in the sun and be a big rug with feet as long as no one invades his yard. I think he'd try to jump the fence before he tried to dig out. But, I will make sure to keep it as dog proof as possible if I put up a fence. I am seriously thinking I might just get a couple really big runs and out them together so I can move them around.

That sounds like a good plan. Do you think an electronic fence would work?

Re: Fred Friend
LOL - maybe. We have a GPS tracker on his collar. It warns me if he leaves the area. I can set it to beep when he does, and he hates that beep. I can try to train him that way.

Re: Fred Friend
Fred is free! He didn't need to be sedated for his x-rays, and was a very good boy. Everything from the surgery is healed, so he can climb stairs and go on longer walks. We're going to go pretty slow adding distance to his walks since he is pretty out of shape after 2 months of doing almost nothing.
