Re: Feral for life
I sure do hope not only you can catch them but they also make the weight so they can be neutered/spayed. Sounds like Willa is getting used to your comings and goings, but the littler ones aren't quite there yet.

Re: Feral for life
Today Willa/Will was on the fence this morning but I fed
early because I had to be someplace at 8.30 Tonight Willa
was on the fence with the kitten. The kitten was heading to
the water when I came back with the food. He/she made a scoot
towards the fence. I sat the food down and went and stood in the
driveway the kitten started to creep near the food, then sat and
watched me. Mom stayed on the fence. I know there are more
they just won't cross the fence.

But, that is big progress. They didn't run away and hide. Baby steps...

For a shy, scared, unsocialized to humans kittens that is a huge step in the right direction! Sounds like the lil guy is now trying to figure you out like Willa has done.

Re: Feral for life
Willa was waiting on the fence line tonight. I saw two black
kittens, one was in the drive between the vacant house and
my neighbors. Then a second black kitten came down from the
upper deck if the vacant house,

I wonder if Willa is bringing the kids out for investigations.

Re: Feral for life
I think so. I didn't see anybody tonight. It was raining
and I had to set the crate up so they would have semi
dry space to eat and drink. All the wet food was gone
but there was some kibble left.

I think they're coming to eat when it's a bit quieter. Glad the rain isn't keeping them away. I wonder if Willa is starting to encourage the little ones to not run off so fast when you appear. After all, you are the Giver of Good Food and Clean Water.

Re: Feral for life
Willa was sleeping on the fence this morning. All the food was gone
when I went back later to pick up the dishes. Poured rain at feeding
time. I didn't put down fresh water but I set up the crate with the
food in it. I don't think I'm going back out to pick them up. Hopefully
Willa & Co will get something to eat.

No way to cover that crate with a piece of plastic to keep the interior dry? Did you see the kitties today on the fence at all?

Re: Feral for life
No, because the crate is in an exposed area
and I don't want to leave it out unless needed.
Willa and Kit was on the fence line this morning.
All the food was gone from last night and all the food
was eaten this morning and evening. Willa and Kit have
been snoozing on the fence line when I've gone out for the
past week or so. Also when I went out this evening no one was
on the fence when I put out the water, then as I started to walk a
way Willa showed up at the trot to get on the fence top and wait for
the food to show up.

Re: Feral for life
Well someone was napping on the steps to the upper deck
when I went to feed and water tonight. I think it was Willa.
Anyway she came back when I brought out the food. All the
food was gone when I picked up the dishes.

Sounds like Willa and Kit are getting used to the routine, won't be long before they start coming a bit closer and closer.

Re: Feral for life
There were fence sightings today, along with
a sighting of somebody on the back porch of
the vacant house. The yard men were there
working today and I had move the water to the
back porch. All the morning food was gone and the
evening meal was gone too. No sightings though.

Then they're being sneakier about coming for their meals. Probably because the workmen spook them, they're not familiar and unthreatening like you are in their opinion.

Re: Feral for life
Maybe the kits moved on somewhere else but Willa was too afraid to leave? So she's staying put where she knows she can get food and water from a kind stranger. Any signs she's starting to trust you yet?

Re: Feral for life
Ok, this is what happening with the cat crisis. I was told to stop
feeding and no longer attempt to TNR. This is because some of the
cats have decided they like someones front porch furniture. Any suggestions
that i have made to encourage the cats to relocate have fallen on deaf ears.
So I was able to trap and spray two of them. I can no longer feed or moniter
what is going on. I released the last one early this evening. I'm truly disguested
about this. I would defy if I didn't have Boo to consider.

Re: Feral for life
How horrible. You try to do the right thing and you get shut down. I hope Willa et al will be able to find a more hospitable place to stay since you won't be allowed to provide for them anymore. Poor kitties........ at least two of them won't be adding to the overpopulation problem.
Even though you aren't allowed to feed them anymore you can still keep an eye out to see if they stay or go. I hope they find a better more friendly refuge. I know you tried..............

Re: Feral for life
I guess they don't realize that you can TNR and relocate the cats. Sigh... Porch furniture... That seems like such a stupid thing.

Re: Feral for life
would it help it you got some of the people from the local tnr group to go over and talk to those people? maybe if they could take all the kitties at once and they could relocate them (I know that's not right or hard to do) it would help??

Re: Feral for life
Very stupid IMHO. Don't they realize that if you remove cats soon there'll be more homeless kitties moving in to fill the vacuum? Just ask Alley Cat Allies about that, it's a proven fact. You'd think those people would want a few kitties around to keep the mice at bay...........
I understand about them not having any ears to hear with, I also think they have no brains to think with about what they've heard too.
