Re: Severe Weather Check-In
didn't sleep much last night though it wasn't really badly uncomfortable. I'm trying to spend as much time in AC environments. Im very glad that the trains seem to be nicely refrigerated. even if the platforms are hot.
101 today with heat index 115. we are supposesd to get the tstorms tomorrow and start cooling off again sunday, Monday.when overnight will be high 60s bliss

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
well, I survived the weekend. The library I go to on Saturdaays was a designated cooling station. I've never seen so many people there on a Saturday! I stayed until closing time, then went to the laundramat across the street, but their AC was not working too well. ended up at the diner of dinner, and stayed in their waiting area afterwards, and read for about two hours. Finally wne t home around 9PM
Sunday, though a bit cooler was still about 100 degrees and much less cooling time, The library that used to open on Sunday is no longer, the laundramat had no AC to speak of, I dawdled at the diner for awhile. A reported on TV mentioned that even 2 hrs with AC is good as it helps the body cool down.

So do icy col showers if you stay in there for at least 15-20 minutes. I get in, start at somewhat luke warm, then slowly turn it colder and colder as I adjust. Helps to drop your body core temperature down after being out in the heat. It sure helps me for several hours afterwards.

Who's in Texas? Tropical Storm Don is headed to South Texas tonight, and from what I've heard they are less worried about the wind than hopeful that they might get a bit of desperately needed water out of it. I hope it helps and doesn't hurt!

Right now we are in a furnace, it looks like we may equal and break the 1980 record.
So far we have been lucky and not rolling black outs or brown outs. Still it is scary.
Even with the window unit and the exhaust, along with a/c it is going to be miserable in
the kitchen tomorrow.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
my dad was talking to my brother yesterday. he also lives in the dallas area. He said it's too hot to go into the pool because the water has been heated so hot by they 30 plus 100 degree plus weather.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
I saw on tv someone turning on the cold tap and the water that came out was 90° straight from the pipes. The water is literally being heated in the ground by all the heat penetrating from above. I doubt even a cave would be very cool in TX after all those days of 100+ heat.
Sue, I think you've already broken the record for most consecutive days of 100+ temps.

Today makes the 23rd straight day with 90 degree weather. To make it worse, we have had very little rain. But then, the rain has been so spotty.

I heard on the news that Texas is in its second worst drought ever. They won't have relief from the heat until October at the earliest.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
We are all in the Richmond area. No severe weather yet, but we're as ready as we can be. Kitties are all sleeping -- exhausted from the long car ride. Horses are happily munching their hay in their racetrack stalls. The barns are really cool! I think we're going to make it. Now, we just want the storm to be gone!

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
just checking in before i close down for the night. its been raining here for about 3 hrs...a little windy but so far doesn't sound too bad. of course i can't see past the deck cuz its dark but when i stepped outside it didn't blow me away., BUT its just the bare edge of the start of it all.
so if you don't hear from me for a day or two you know why...but if the electric stays on and the net connection stays up i'll be on here.
as far as i've been told the store will be open tomorrow and of course we're expected to come into work. (of course they said 'well just call out' when i said i might have to be walking in and get blown away). But ill set the alarm for half an hour early and see what its like out there. I"ll just be happy if i can step out of bed and not have the floor flooded!
everyone stay safe and stay dry!

All ok here. No damage, but no power either. Running on generator now. Sigh... Could have been much, much worse. Thanking lucky stars.

I'm thankful there isn't any damage. The power being off was kinda expected, wasn't it?

Here in Northern IL, we have a beautiful day going - high winds, but otherwise lovely.
Re: Severe Weather Check-In
So far so good here. One round of storms went through here this morning and another round is on it's way. There was quarter size hail this morning at my parents house.

We are having our first major frog strangler thunderstorms, complete with tornado warnings and
flash floods. It really is wicked out there. So far I won't have to take shelter in the hallway. Antonio is
already in his safe spot though.
