Re: feral kittens
I'd love to see the newest additions too. There must definitely be a yellow/orange tom running around fathering all these lil creamcicle-colored kittens.
It was black cat season at my local animal shelter so there must be a black tom around.........over half the kittens were pure black.

Well, you should never assume anything. Turns out that Dustie is a MALE kitty! I never even looked very closely, as torties are almost always female. "Almost" is the key word there.

Re: feral kittens
I took another look at Dustie, and I don't know. It kinda looks like there are both girl and boy parts there. I'll have to run her by the vet's, I guess.

Re: feral kittens
I'd be very surprised if Dustie turns out to be male, if he/she is truly a Tortie. The odds are very heavily favored toward female only on a Tortie that has no real white on it. The true Tortie, which is black, rust and cream is over 95% female.
Re: feral kittens
well, there can be hermaphrodite kitties like there are people. we had a Tigger like that.
either way, Dustie is a name that can go either way:)

Hmmm, you'll have to let us know if Dustie is a boy or a girl when the vet sees him/her. Still a cute tortie......

Re: feral kittens
I think that Dustie just has little fur puffs where testicles would be on a boy kitty, so she's just a normal girl after all.

Bijoux does too, and he was only 6 months old when he was 'fixed'.

No pics of these guys. I've been doing some photos for SCARF's website, but that's about it.

SCARF's Petfinder page is at www.secondchance-arf.petfinder.com. The most recent pics I've done are of Lucy and Desi (chiweenies) and the kittens Tiggie, Tye, and Music.

Those pics are great. And they look so sweet and lovable. I see Sherbet and Petie are still there so no homes yet. Hopefully soon that will change.

Re: feral kittens
Well, we had 3 puppy adoptions, but all the kitties came home with us, so Dustie is sleeping off her big day with her brothers.
Friday night the lady who is doing TNR in the trailer park called. She had 2 more kittens. I picked up the little one (5 weeks old, max.) and got some kitten formula into him. He was nothing but skin and bones, plus a huge flea load. I got the fleas combed off him, and he ate more formula Saturday morning. A friend babysat him yesterday, as I had to go to the petfair. Evidently he had terrible diarrhea yesterday afternoon. She gave him some Albon. I'm hoping we just overfed him, but I haven't heard from her today, so I'm worried.
The other kitty is a little female siamese mix. She got sick last night (vomiting). I brought her here this morning, took her off solid food, and made her drink some chicken broth laced with pedialyte. She hissed at me, but she let me handle her, clean her up, and comb off a bunch of fleas. She seems to be resting comfortably, so I hope she's not seriously ill. She doesn't seem to have a temperature, and she used her little litterbox and had a good solid stool, so I'm hoping that means she doesn't have distemper. Fingers crossed. If anyone wants to send some "vibes," these babies could use them

vibes sent, prayers said and candle lit for those poor little kitties. lets hope that the digestion problems are just from being in a new environment.

(((((((((((((((((((((((HEALTHY KITTY VIBES))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Hopefully the tummy issues were just from the switch in diet and nothing more serious. I know fleas can stress a furbabe's system something awful, and so can a change in environment. That would be enough to make anybody hiss. They should settle down in a day or two, and since that one is so young (5 weeks) you have a very good chance of taming him completely. I would love to see pics! I haven't seen a tiny babe that young since I found Itty Bitty in front of the library a few years ago............

Re: feral kittens
Both kittens are much better today. The little girl siamese is eating, and has decided that she's tame. The little boy kitten is doing well too, so I'm hoping they're over the hump.

Re: feral kittens
I am so relieved they are better and doing so well. Lil siamese decided she's tame now? Very smart lil girl. What sort of names are you looking for this time? How about Solange` for the siamese? After the siamese in the 9 Chickweek Lane comic?

Re: feral kittens
I'm not familiar with that comic. Solange is a pretty name, but I'm not sure it fits this kitten. She's kind of a little goof. I have named the boy siamese Raj after the character on "The Big Bang," and I may name the little girl Mimi after the character in La Boheme. Her little feet were very cold the days she was sick, for those of you who know the aria.
