Re: Coffee Cup Kitties
The vet found ear mites, and gave the kitties injections of Ivermectin. I will keep their ears clean and hold a good thought that the ear mites will clear up. I never heard of Ivermectin for ear mites--it's usually for heart worms in dogs, I think.

Re: Coffee Cup Kitties
If all the vet found were ear mites, that's an excellent report!
A quick internet search says Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic agent that can be toxic, but has been used against mites with success on cats and kittens. Hopefully it will do the trick. I know it's an injection -- do you have to swab their ears as well?
So glad you didn't have to use subterfuge to get the kittens examined! (We'll just keep that little trick up our sleeve until we need it, yes? )

I'm going to clean out their ears tomorrow. I'm giving them a little rest this evening.

I occasionally use Ivermectin for the horses too. I didn't know it could be used for kitty ear mites. I hope the ears clear up quickly and everyone is comfortable.

Never heard of using Ivermectin for ear mites, other parasites yes, but not mites. I hope it does the trick though.

I know it takes care of bot fly babies that latch onto horse legs, so it must work for mite-y things.
How are the babies today? Getting more comfortable?

The kittens were playing like crazy today--throwing toys around and rearranging the furniture. Mama seems a little subdued, but it may be that the kids are wearing her out. She wants to be held and is an enthusiastic purrer.

Mama sounds like such a sweetheart. I hope she finds a good home when all this is over; she deserves some peace and loving after all she's been through. The kittens sound like... well, kittens! Lol! With a sweet Mama like that and lots of socialization from you, they'll likely be fine kitties for some lucky family. Fingers crossed for all the Cuppa's!

Mom does sound wonderful. The kittens just sound adorable. I bet mom was happy to get a little break.

I'm sure they'll all find good homes, and mamma is sure ready enough I bet right now. And also more than ready for a break from the kids, even though she will miss them for a lil while after they're gone.

Sounds like Mom is thankful for your help and is showing so with all the purrs :-)

Starbuck purred when I petted him today, but when he realized what he was doing, he stopped. Gloria Jean plays with dangly toys with me, but so far no purrs from her. Mama Jackie just wants to be held and petted. She's a love bug.

Ha! progress! Boy cats (in my experience) are an easier lovin' sell than girls, but keep trying.

You are making progress with the kits, that's for sure. Mama Jackie sounds like Bij, a real lovebug. Aren't most black kitties like that though? The ones I've met sure have been.

Re: Coffee Cup Kitties
Our own youngest cat, Eli, was such a cuddle bug when he was a sick little baby. Now that he's all grown up, he's pretty much a brat, and doesn't like to be held and cuddled. He's still a youngster, and may decide to be a love bug once again when he's mature.

He may learn that lesson a bit sooner if you occasionally 'insist' on snuggling with him. If you can get him to sit still long enough that is.

Re: Coffee Cup Kitties
Eli gets lots of hugs whether he wants them or not. He's napping on the other end of the couch from me right now--just a coincidence, I'm sure.
The Coffee Cup kittens also get lots of hugs, mostly against their will at this point, but they're coming along a little each day. Their mama insists on hugs, so she sets a good example.

Ah, don't let Eli fool you. If he's sharing the couch with you, he's with you. Just in his own way.

He wouldn't be that close to you if he wasn't comfy with you. The purrs that don't stop will come soon I'm sure.

Re: Coffee Cup Kitties
The Coffee Cup Kitties went to Look What the Cat Brought In on Saturday. I miss my sweet little family, but I didn't even get one day off from fostering. I'll start another thread about my new group.
