Re: Bingo found a home
I caught him this morning snoodling something in the back yard. I couldn't tell what it was, but he left it when I told him to leave it. I'll have to check it out when I go to put more seeds in the garden. If it's gross, I'll put it in a bag and get rid of it. There are disadvantages to having a Hoover dog.

I hear you. And the scary part about it, is that makes him suscipitable to accendental poisoning.

Yeah... We don't use mouse/rat poison, and I don't keep dewormers in the barn. I buy what I need, use it, and don't keep the tubes where the hound can get to it. He has been trained not to eat out of the horse tubs since Kina takes meds that can make him sick. So, unless he finds something we didn't put there, he should be pretty safe. I do try to keep an eye on him. It is a source of worry - silly hound.

Nope. He must have eaten all of whatever it was. He hasn't gone anywhere different this morning, so I guess he's back to his normal self. No excitement today. It's been rainy, so he spent most of the day sleeping.

We found a new drug that we want to try during grass pollen season. Apoquel is supposed to relieve itching. Bingo is much better than he was at this time last year, but the pollen is so bad that he is itchy. It looks like it will be expensive, but we should be able to take him off it once the grass dies down. Waiting to hear from the vet on whether they recommend it.

Keeping my fingers crossed......allergy relief is a godsend when you're suffering from an incessant itch. I can sympathize with the poor pup.
Maybe you can get a discount of some kind on it? From the pharmaceutical company maybe?

I can check, but I'm not hopeful. I've looked for discounts for horse meds (from the pharma company and from vets), and it's almost impossible. But, it's worth the money if he gets relief and doesn't have to stay on the prednisone. That's cheap stuff, but the long term side effects are really scary.

I know, it raises my BGL and my eye pressure so I can't use it at all.
Just remember, nothing ventured nothing gained. Doesn't hurt to ask about a discount....maybe the vet can give you one on it if the drug company doesn't.

The Appquel is a miracle drug. There was no discount since I didn't buy a whole bottle. Even with a discount, I couldn't afford that. But, I got a month's worth, and after the first dose, Bingo seems much more comfortable. I'll give him a bath in the hot weather this weekend, and he should be on the road to growing back his fur.

He's semi_naked? OhMy........
My Nicki was so allergic to flea bite that she scratched out all the fur on her back and her back legs were totally naked and looked like chicken legs. There were no meds then for doggie allergies, poor pup.

Poor thing. This new medicine is great. I don't know if they make a kitty version, but I think it will be a turning point for so many dogs with allergies. I hope they have a kitty version too. I imagine that there will be a generic soon too. It doesn't usually take long for that to happen any more. I can't wait since it costs about $2/day once you're done with the loading dose now. I think I'm going to try taking Bingo off it once the grass pollen settles down. He isn't allergic to the weeds that make people miserable in late summer. Trees and grass get him going. So, I will spend the money in spring and early summer and see what happens later in the year when I stop giving it to him. If he gets itchy, I'll just start back up and suffer the 2 week loading dose costs.

Nicki was a small terrier mix. After we discovered the flea bite allergy she went 100% paper trained. Problem solved, until she picked one up at the vets office waiting room. Very expensive flea to get rid of.
Glad there is a treatment now for stuff like that. Hope the price goes down as the years go by. Most meds prices do as time passes.

Yup except those that the drug companies decide to abuse. Epipens... Sigh...
Bingo feels so good he almost took me for a jog instead of a walk. It was hot outside, and he was trotting down the road. We walked early because it was going to get hot. I broke a good sweat walking him, which I don't usually do.

Mr. Energy Dog. He's been running around the yard and even chased one of the bold squirrels. Gave that little rodent a surprise. Maybe he'll think twice before he heads towards the feeders.

This just keeps getting better and better! I can imagine him chasing that squirrel right up the tree and nearly going after it if only he could climb.....

Re: Bingo found a home
I really like the new energetic Bingo. We got home really late last night, and he came out to do his thing. His buddy is here, so it was dog romping at midnight. Then, he wanted to play with me. He'd run to my feet, lower down his front end, and TAKE OFF for me to chase. It was a bit much exercise for me in the middle of the night, but I tried.

He has. He was playing with his friend the past few days, so he's a little tired today. I don't know if he will be playful tonight.
