It's been miserable here in Texas too.

Poor dog is really suffering from the grass pollen. Even though he's had his shot, he's taking Benadryl. He is very congested. He doesn't have any horrible discharge, just clear stuff and watery eyes. I'm hoping the pollen settles down soon. My eyes are itching too.

He is much better today. I decided to give him his allergy serum a little early, and it seems to be helping a lot. I am taking Winnie for a recheck on her ears on Tuesday. I will ask the vet about every 3 weeks for serum while the pollen is so high. It's normally every 4 weeks.

That sounds like a good plan. No point in letting rage out of control and turning into something even nastier.

Re: Bingo found a home
So the vet thinks the prescription food we got to try to extend his itch shots might be the culprit. We're going to try cutting that out (which saves a LOT of money), and see if he gets better. If not, we can discuss the serum.
So far, no symptoms after 2 meals with no prescription food. I guess he is really allergic to flax, which is one of the ingredients. We were hoping it was just a mild sensitivity, but evidence is pointing to more than that.

Poor guy. What is he eating now? Also was a wet food or dry?

The prescription food was kibble for skin. We were hoping to extend the time between itchy shots, but I would rather pay more money for shots than go through the stuffy nose and bad reactions. Now, he's eating Nutro senior food and gets a little soft food at supper. He gets a scoop of pumpkin on his breakfast.

We found some soft food that has chicken and pumpkin for kitties. Mouski says it's delicious. He likes a little chicken broth on it, and a 10 second spin in the microwave.

Weruva. Lots of flavors and textures to choose from. Mouski likes the chicken and pumpkin ones, but I haven't tried the others. Might have to do it.

Bingo is snotty again. It's a day early for his full allergy serum shot, but I think I'll do it to see if it helps. His ear is getting itchy again too. He is due for a Bordatella (sp?) shot in a couple weeks, so I'll make an appointment to have all of this checked out. It seems like allergies are really going hard on everyone this year.

I'll check with the Upper Paw on the food. As to allergies everybody is dying.

Re: Bingo found a home
I just ordered a cooling bed for Bingo. He has been sleeping in the bathroom during the day. I think it's because the tile floor is cool. This isn't really a problem, but I thought a cushioned bed would be more comfortable than a hard tile floor.

That sounds neat and you're right the bed will have to be a lot more comfortable.

He's sleeping on top of the AC vent now. He must want to be cool.

Antonio has been known to stake the part of the bed to get max airflow from the ceiling fan and a/c.

Re: Bingo found a home
It's a good thing. I just saw that this week is supposed to be pretty hot here. Days in the 90s. Nights won't be too bad, but I'm sure the humidity is coming too. I've decided that I won't ask Bingo to walk on really hot days. He's had such a hard time with his allergies, and his age is catching up with him a bit. If he wants to go early in the morning or late in the evening, that's great. But, I won't make him go. He has play days for exercise, and they have nice shaded pens and indoor play areas, so the doggies don't get overheated.

That sounds like a plan. The amount of stupid people I see at White Rock running and biking with their pets in the summer still astounds me.

Re: Bingo found a home
Bingo went to the vet today for minor nose bleeds and severe congestion. He had a little bit of grass stuck in the nostril that isn't bleeding. The vet wants him to get an endoscopy, so I am going to call and schedule soon. I hope it answers the questions so we can treat the problem. For now, he's on antibiotics for a couple weeks to take care of the grass leftovers. He's breathing much better already.

Re: Bingo found a home
The internal medicine doctor who does the endoscopy is at a conference this week, so I'll call on Monday to make the appointment. Bingo's attitude is a bit brighter, and he didn't have much blood coming from his nose today. He wasn't snoring at all during the day, but now that night is here, he seems to be snorting more. That's weird!

Re: Bingo found a home
I seriously wonder if there's something stuck way up in his nose. It's like it moves around and causes snorting, and then moves again and no snorting. Only way to find out is to look up there.
