It's a charmer, Sue. The first time I saw it I'd never seen anime before and I kept waiting for something terrible to happen, but it never did. This time I relaxed and fell in love with the visual beauty, good hearts and adorable spirits. Enjoy!

Re: Movie Reviews
Mr. Popper's Penguins was OK. The penguins were adorable but the divorced-busy-dad-who-wins-back-his-family's-love plot is cliche...and did they really need three poop scenes and a penguin with a flatulence problem?
I give it two (and a half) half popcorn

Thanks, Warrior. I'm putting it way down on my list. I like Jim Carrey, but it sounds like this is one of those movies best appreciated by 7 year old boys. Bet I can see the best parts by watching the trailer!

Re: Movie Reviews
Bodily function humor is a cheap laugh. I hate, hate, hate when people stoop to that level, and they do it ALL THE TIME anymore. The only movie to use that where I laughed out loud was Blazing Saddles, and that was more for the reaction by Slim Pickens than the actual "bean scene."
Re: Movie Reviews
I hate it when they put bodily function humor--and totally out of place adult innuendo--in kid's movies. Kid movies are so much better when they are just simply kid movies. They can even be enjoyed by adults.

Re: Movie Reviews
ya gotta remember that this movie (as the book it came from..themovie is just loosely based on the book) was aimed at the kiddies and not at us. what else can penquins do but look cute, waddle, swim, dance around ..then you have to get down to reality...everybody poops! everybody farts! If ya don't you'll explode! (as Shrek and Whoopie say...better out then in: ) ).
i'll get to see if when i break down and get it out of the red box at the grocery store or when they mark it down to like $5. i love Jimmy C but i don't buy much even at $15.00 anymore!

Re: Movie Reviews
Agreed, this was a kid's movie. And while we may find it distasteful, there's a certain age where bathroom humor is the most hilarious thing in the universe! I gots no prob with catering to that. Why shouldn't kids have a few movies just for them?

Ever since I saw a snippet of Pollyanna a few months ago I've wanted to see the wole thing again, so I bought it cheap from Amazon and watched it tonight. Wonderful!
(Though I didn't realize it was so long -- over 2 hours!)

Re: Movie Reviews
Picked up some movies from the library for the weekend, including The Sting. It's been decades since I've seen it and I'm kinda excited about watching it again. 1. Young Robert Redford. Yum! 2. Lots of crafty doin's, heh heh heh. 3. Excellent ending which I don't remember except that it's good. 4, 5 & 6. Young Robert Redford.

Yep, Hayley Mills. I think Pollyanna was her first for Disney. Thanks for the reminder of Trouble With Angels. I love that one, too!

Re: Movie Reviews
Just finished watching the Black Stallion. Normally I hate horse movies. This one though, I've always enjoyed
this movie. Lavioulsy(sp) photographed, can't say much about the acting. The horse was great and well trained.
I give this The other thing is there are to me some serious continunetue (sp)
errors.

Re: Movie Reviews
Watched the 1938 "A Christmas Carol" w/ Reginald Owen as Scrooge & Leo G. Carroll as Jacob Marley's ghost. Not bad, but compared to my favorite version, this one is just flat.

I prefer the 1938 version but still all is good. The one I've never really liked is the one with
George C Scott. While the production values are great I never felt that Scrooge never was redeemed.
The way Scott played him was he never learned anything from the Spirits. My ex husband made an interesting
observation about how Scott played the character. He was Patton from start to finish.

Clicking around during MASH commercials, saw some of "Scrooge" on TCM (1970). Pretty cheesy, and when they started singing I clicked off fast!

Re: Movie Reviews
Well today's movie was Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. This is the original with
Sydney Poiter, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey. Great supporting cast.
In certain ways this is a period piece but in other ways it's timeless.
