Re: Fred Friend
I didn't know that strangers would be coming to my house. My mom says on Thursday we need to take the kitties and go on a short adventure. I don't know that I like strange people looking in my house. My mom says that's why I have to go on an adventure.

Re: Fred Friend
That is wise of your Mom. Are they doing some work on your house? I'm sure you'll enjoy your adventure but I don't think the kitties will.
Becky, you said something about your parents selling the family farm. I don't know what state your parents are in but Kentucky has something called the Bluegrass Conservatory. The land is protected by a conservation easement and has to remain in agricultural use. Would they be willing to consider that before they sell.

Re: Fred Friend
Sue, we own the farm. My parents do not. It is in the Chesapeake Bay Area, and the county has it zoned as rural residential. The land will have to remain as it is, and the Chesapeake Bay Act means that it will need to be maintained without development or other bad things. We are selling because I have some health considerations now, and want to sell while the market is hot.

Re: Fred Friend
That's great. I'm sorry to hear about your developing health issues, so I can see why you are considering selling at this time. I didn't know about the Chesapeake Bay Act. That is a very good thing.

I am thinking I'll be fine. I'm scared, but statistics say that I have a 95% chance of being back to normal after surgery. But... No reason not to take precautions. It's not like any of us gets younger as we age.

Will you still be able to ride? If you can't driving is fun, though you might not want to ride with me.

Re: Fred Friend
Once I recover from surgery, riding is totally approved. I will be unable to walk Fred or ride for a few weeks, and then work my way back to normal. Consultation on 9/8, so I'll know more then.
Fred has been watching me very closely. He knows something is up.

Panicking. Thank goodness Fred is a good dog. He knows something is up and he's been a very good boy.

I understand. Did you ever read Dune? If you did, do remember what Herbert said about fear. That it is the mind killer.

Pets can be such good nurses. We had a few cats that were nurses when one of us got sick.

Yes... They have all been watching me and staying close. I love them for that. No expectations except quiet and comfort. Pets are the best.

Re: Fred Friend
I go for my surgery on 10/4, and will be overnight in the hospital. After that, I'm supposed to feel ok and be able to get around ok. I won't be able to walk Fred (hold the leash), but I will be able to walk. I plan to get back up on my feet ASAP. The pets all know something's up. Fred has been especially attentive, protective, and gentle recently. He nibbled a treat out of my hand. So cute!

They always know when something is up. I wish there was more that I could do. Still I'm with you, so is Bud. I would have seen Fred take the treat. What a good boy he is.

Re: Fred Friend
It's going to be an adventure for sure. I am glad I have good furry kids to help, and great people to help even more. I hate being dependent, but sometimes you've just got to do what you've got to do. I know Fred will keep me active, and will learn not to pull or be obnoxious when he sees bicycles. That will be key. As long as he doesn't pull on me, everything will be fine.

Re: Fred Friend
Fred got a new harness for walking. Since all my medical fun, I am not allowed to lift of have things pull on me. We got a no-pull harness, and it works great. He sees squirrels but doesn't take me for a ride chasing them. I'm glad because I do like taking him for walks.

That's good. I hate to be pulled and jerked around. Walking is good for all concerned. Food Lady

We plan to go on walks in Colonial Williamsburg now that it's close. We might also walk around the William and Mary campus both for memory's sake and to make students feel good. They often ask to pet dogs when we go. Fred likes to meet people, so that will be fun. Mask up and go!
