We will be celebrating the new year by taking Envoy to boarding school. He is ready to go back to work. He's had about 3 weeks off, and he's starting to be bored. He's making his stall a mess, and get mopey. The weather is supposed to be fantastic, so my trainer and I will celebrate by taking a ride just for fun. Happiness with our ponies. Weather is supposed to get COLD by midweek, so we should enjoy it while it's here.

He spends every winter at boarding school. He will probably come home in April when the grass is growing. He just needs to work, and I can work with him at the trainer's house much more easily. He is already better about his stall. His inside stall was pretty clean today and he went outside to do most of his "business." We'll see if he does the same thing tomorrow since it's COLD tonight. Brrrr! He's wearing 2 blankets. Exclamation

How cold is there, I spoke to my cousin and his wife tonight and they said it
was in the teens in central Kentucky. It's supposed to be in the 20's tonight here.

So he's there already or is he still at home and is "boarding school" reasonably close to your place?

The wind is howling and temps are headed to about 18 degrees tonight. It's miserable. I didn't ride tonight because it was cold in the indoor arena, and the wind somehow was twisting around to the open south wall. All horses are covered in blankets and tucked into their stalls. It's supposed to warm up a little tomorrow and be pleasant by the weekend. I heard that it will rain and be about 55 on Sunday. I could do without the rain, but if it isn't snow, I guess I am happy.

Envoy is at boarding school, which is my trainer's house. It's about an hour from my house and 1/2 an hour from work. I feel like I spend my life in the car all winter long, and I get really tired of driving. But, it's worth it. I just hope gas prices don't go much higher.

I hope so too. It's been chilly during the day but the night's are cold
here right now. Even the slightest wind makes it feel just artic.

It is arctic here, that wind feels like it's blowing straight off a glacier (and according to the weatherman I'm not far off--it's coming from N. Canada).

Don't they heat the indoor arena Becky? I know it's a bit warmer there but you still get winter chill.

Oh no! It's financially insane to heat an indoor arena. It's a HUGE open space with really a high ceiling. The average person couldn't afford to heat that. Besides, this is a "southern" arena that has an open wall on the south side to keep the air from getting really dusty. It's warmer than being outside, but the main purpose is to keep the footing dry since we don't normally have super cold winters.

Maybe they need to put some large drapes across that open doorway when the wind is howling like that. It would help keep the wind out but still give plenty of ventilation and access.

Fif, as drafty as it can get with an open side, the drapes can come loose and flap
in the windy. Ponies have a response that be not only unsettling but unseating..

That's the truth! Envoy is usually a steady Eddy, but with big flapping curtains, he might be a time bomb. It's supposed to go up to almost 60 degrees tomorrow, so we will probably appreciate that open wall.

Envoy likes oranges! Very unusual thing for a pony to like. I was eating an orange when we got done with our ride. He poked his nose over the fence (and left his pile of hay) to ask for a taste. I gave him a wedge and he gulped it down. Then he asked for more. Silly pony. But, I guess he's getting his vitamin C. Cool

I had a dog (Black Lab) who would eat nearly anything, including veg & fruit, but turned up her nose at citrus. Weezer, on the other hand, won't even eat canned catfood yet the other day demanded a lick & bite of my orange! Go figure.

Nothing wrong with furkids liking oranges, they're good for you. And I agree, they seem extra tasty this year.

I've had some wonderfully sweet oranges this year, too.

One of our cats growing up, Blackberry, went nuts for cantaloupe (sp?). Once you'd eaten all the orange off your slice, he'd beg for the rind, nibble off all the last bits of orange, then chew on the green part. Crazy cat.

Archimedes liked strawberries. I think animals are like people that way. Some like unusual things and some hate normal things. My friend's cat won't eat chicken. Shocked

Envoy got carrots today and was very happy with that. Poor guy had his blanket on, but had been standing in the rain. He was dry under the blanket but he still looked miserable.

My sis' first dog Chelbie loved to eat raw lemons, like you would a grapefruit. Made the funniest faces, but kept coming back and begging for more. She'd also sit in front of the fridge and bark if she wanted something different than what was in her bowl. That dog was quite a character (same one that got tangled in the christmas tree garland). Sometimes I still miss that ol' part-houndy dog.
