Re: Envoy's 2012 boarding school tales
Envoy figured out how to flip the top off his food can in the little feed area of his stall. He pokes his head out the little access window and S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S his neck out to put his nose under the handle. Then, flip! The top is off. Thank goodness the can is too far for him to get in and snack. Still... It's just funny that he's been in that stall for 3 years and just figured out how to get into that kind of mischief.

I moved the can this past weekend. Envoy thinks I took away the most fun in pony land. He won't play with his Jolly Ball, and I took away his game. Poor guy.

Heehee! He had an easy day today. We just walked and stretched. Both of us were a bit tired.

With the change in the weather that is really no surprise, it takes the energy out of me too.

Our whole winter has been weather changes. It's been 70, then 30, then 60. Rain/sun/rain. Very weird weather.

Yeah here too. Seesawing temps seem to be the new normal. With snow on the ground that isn't melting we're alternating from being cold to in the deep freeze, then cold again, then freezing our butts off......etc.
Is he more energetic now that he had a day of rest?

Re: Envoy's 2012 boarding school tales
Neither of us had much energy today. It was a cold, nasty rain day. Envoy was hanging out in his little stall and watching the rain. He had his blanket and neck cover on. We did go to the indoor and rode for about an hour. He was nicely forward, but he was very glad to go back to his blanket and hay.

Ha! Don't blame him!
What does that mean, "nicely forward"? Sounds like a good thing.

It's a very good thing and hard to describe to a non horseman. Sounds like Envoy was moving
well, very relaxed and on the bit.

Re: Envoy's 2012 boarding school tales
Forward is the goal of all riders. It is when the horse moves willingly, with good energy and relaxation. He accepts the rein aids without resistance. He also steps well underneath his body with his hind legs and "pushes" into the bridle. When you see a really good ride, you see forward. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKQgTiqhPbw)
There's really nothing like it, and it's hard to explain to somebody who doesn't ride. Did I come close?

A ride like that takes an amazing horse and an amazing rider. It has to be the best ride I've ever seen.

Wish I could get into youtube but the library blocks it. I'd love to see a horse skip and dance.

Re: Envoy's 2012 boarding school tales
Since Pavie passed, Envoy has taken a special interest in his buddies, Bella and Luke. The two of them kind of pay attention to him, but don't seem so interested. Their other buddy, Bo, comes home next week, but he's on layup. He will be in a paddock right next to Envoy. Hopefully, they'll become friends.

Re: Envoy's 2012 boarding school tales
Envoy's hay net came today. Now, we he will get to enjoy his hay up off the ground, and get to eat more slowly. He is a huge hay face, so it should help him slow down and enjoy his meals. I'll bring it out with me tomorrow.

Re: Envoy's 2012 boarding school tales
It's a hit. He ate at it all day long. There was lots going on with fence building and stall repair in the barn. He watched for a little while, but really never left his hay.
