Most definitely. And people do better when they don't have to shovel out filthy stalls. Envoy and company will spend the night outside. The hot weather is taking a break for a day. The end of the week is supposed to be brutal, but tomorrow will be in the 70s. Time to play outside!

Envoy did not get to do riding games today because my work computer died and I had to bring it into the office. I know he doesn't care, but we're getting close to big adventure day. We can't slack off too much. He needs to keep his wonderful physical condition. Smile

That might be harder to do with the hotter temps coming your way. Who wants to work up a sweat jogging and working when just standing there breathing makes you sweat?

Our weekend trail ride was cancelled because of the brutal forecast. It's good because traveling in the trailer when it's hot is really bad. I will visit my friend, but Envoy will stay at home and try to stay as cool as possible. Poor guys! I always feel bad for them when the temps go way up. They're better equipped to deal with the cold.

Looking at our weather report, close enough to yours, I glad you cancelled. This is no time for a fun outing. Evil or Very Mad

Ours too, we hit 101 with indexes ranging from 113-117 on Thursday. I had an idea, but it depends on what direction the fans blow. I saw an ad for a clip on frozen gelpack for a human's occilating fan. Not a bad idea for us peoples in the house. I thought, how about something similar by hanging a few 2 litre frozen bottles in front of the barn fans.....then they'd be blowing cooler air than what's in the barn in general.

I would worry about the horses doing something silly. The fans are mounted to barn posts and the stall ceilings. I am pretty sure the horses would figure out how to get the bottles down and then the fans would follow. But, right now, we have no power in the barn. The thunderstorms on Friday knocked out the whole county. Our standby generator is working great, but the electrician hooked up the storage barn. Suspect So, the horses have nothing right now. We'll sort that all out next week once the power comes back on. I don't want them to unhook the generator to reroute one circuit.

UGH!!! How are you doing otherwise. I was wondering if the power outage had hit you. It's a little cooler
here right now. Not much but some we'll take anything we can get.

We're fine. Doing a whole lot better than a lot of people. Our food is cold in the fridge. Our well pump is running. The fans are going. A lot of people don't have that. We're happy for what we do have. Our house came through the storm unharmed, so again, we're grateful. I will be happier when the AC comes back, but I will be fine without it. Smile

Horses and kitties say they, too, are fine.

Glad to hear that. From what I've seen on the news, crews have been pulled from other
parts of the country. Hopefully you won't be too much longer without power.

Tonio says that Gateway should claim his very own spot in front of his very
own fan.

I was wondering if you were in that area sweltering in the heat wave without power........I hope Gateway does claim a fan for himself. This heat can be dangerous for someone with heart problems, and even some of us who don't.

Envoy went for a visit to school today. It was a rainy, thundery day, so it was a good day to ride inside. He had a really good time visiting his old buddies and trimming his paddock grass. We have to work on some riding things, so we're going to try to go once a week or so if it's not too hot. Riding in the trailer on hot days isn't a great idea.

For such a nice spring, we're having a pretty brutal summer. I know others have it much worse, but it's really just a bad summer for everything but tomatoes. (I have a bumper crop!)

Envoy was so hot today that I didn't ride. He had a shower, came in, and is camped out under his fan. Poor guy. It's not supposed to cool down much tonight. But, relief is supposedly on the way. It's supposed to storm on Thursday and go into the 80s or low 90s by the weekend. I hope we'll get our ride in at some point.

Hang in there. It's supposed to moderate sometime this weekend here. I think this Spring spoiled us. I wish Summer would keep on doing it!

I hear thunder and the sky is flickering, so maybe we'll get some water. I agree... I wish summer wasn't being quite so bad. Shoot! The Mississippi River is drying up!

Envoy didn't do too badly today. I was surprised at how unsweaty the boys were when they came in for dinner. I still gave them showers because they had a little dried sweat on their backs, but they weren't dripping like I thought they would be. We did have some breeze coming off the Bay, so maybe it was enough to keep it from being miserable.

The last major moisture we had was the hail storm back in June,
we are parched.

I hope your crops are doing better than ours here, you can kiss the corn and soybeans here goodbye. The rain we got yesterday was not enough and much too late.
At least the horses around here got a nice cool breeze for a while while it was storming out. 40-50mph wind makes for one stiff breeze!

I can believe that. No and ranchers have sold off most their stock. So for the time
being beef prices are down and then will skyrocket.

So will the price of everything with corn, wheat, or soybeans in it. Which is just about everything on the grocery shelves these days.

I'm dreading the price of horse food in the winter. I've begun stocking up on hay. Maybe I need to find a place to store lots of bags of grain.

Make sure to keep it in metal bins or large trashcans to keep it safe from lil schmousies. Will also keep it nice and dry too. I agree.....food prices for us and our furkids of all sizes is going to get very ugly very quickly.

Agreed that storage is critical. No point in spending now if the stockpiled food spoils later due to damp/humidity or vermin contamination.

I have one of those big Rubbermaid cabinets that right now holds the winter blankets. I can move those to the plastic bins that are about the right size and fill the cabinet with food. We'll have to see how it goes. I wonder if that cabinet will hold enough bags to make stocking up worth while.
